Terribe terrible ride. Felt pretty good at the beginning, but after about 6 miles I lost all energy very quickly. Had to take a break and cool off. I've been bringing only 1 bottle with me and could have really used a second plus something to munch on. I'm gonna start making sure I have a just-in-case snack and an extra bottle on future rides.

After 6 miles I thought it would be super cool to be a dumbass, and proceeded to wreck. First time I've wrecked the bike. I sorta did some kinda lame back roll-over in the dirt as I fell off the bike.

It wasn't even a cool wreck at all either. I was going like 1 mph, and just dumped myself in the dirt. Glad I didn't hurt my bike like Kyle did. +1 Bike. -1 Rider.

Only cool highlight would be the max speed of 22.93 mph according to myTracks.

The moral of this story is: Don't Believe Everything You See on Google Maps

I saw a new path on Google Maps that I've never tried before. So halfway down Briar Creek Blvd, I see a "No Outlet" sign... hmmm... I kept going, only to find, a dead end another mile down the road. Interestingly enough though, the path marked on Google Maps is the exact dirt path I took when crossing through the woods to Malabar Rd. So, Google Maps can lead you to some new paths, but don't totally trust it.

Wildlife on this ride consisted of 4 gopher tortoises (I was having to dodge those slow pokes) and 2 dogs attempted to chase me (fortunately they were small and I'm confident would have been defenseless against my size 18 widow makers)

Woah Woah WOAH

Jed rode with me today. He wanted to check out a house that was in bike riding distance from work on our way. My G1 GPS readings are hosed for the first mile or two, not sure why. Battery was low, and there were some high voltage power lines in the area, who knows.

Anyways, onto the ride. Seemed pretty windy, working against us for the first part of the trip. The trails were getting sandier, so they slowed me down more today. We also had some trouble navigating around a barricade on one of the trails that stopped both Jed and I in our tracks.

None of that compares to what I'm about to write though. Oh yeah, hold on, this is it, this is the big one. You have to go way back 102 years in the recorded history of Grant Florida to find any record of a collision on old Graddick road. And even then, one of the horse and buggies involved in the incident was driven by an old blind woman that was trying to text message her grandkids. But that didn't stop us from wrecking right before we hit the 8th mile in our trek.

We were looking for new trails/roads to take on future rides. As I tried to take a left to try see down a road, Jed decided he was going to go straight (who the heck knows where he was going on a dead end road) and was looking at the sky (he kept muttering something about his kids saw Jesus poop from Heaven onto someone's house) right before HE PLOWED RIGHT INTO ME. I yelled out "Woah Woah WOAH" as I saw us about to collide, but he T-Boned me in my left rear quarter panel. Jed never even ATTEMPTED to hit the brakes. I was fortunately able to stay upright as I drove through the debris, fire, and smoke from the collision due to my superior driving skills and almost perfect physique.

I would have taken a picture and twittered the incident, but the carnage was far to graphic for our younger viewers. Jed was far to emotionally upset to continue all the way to our journey's conclusion, and had his wife come pick him on Old Dixie shortly after incident (this can be verified when he uploads his GPX file for today). I on the other hand found an empty beer can, a magnifying glass, and some old markers and used them to repair my bike, which now looks completely unscathed from the incident (reconstructing the wheel using the beer can was quite a challenge). If you are wondering how I repaired it so quickly after so much devastation; well I rode the pieces that were left home and repaired it as I rode.

w00t. Set a personal best time by about 4 minutes. I was really cooking too. Didn't have to stop for any traffic which also helped.

I was moving so fast today, that when I got to the Malabar preserve I was still in top gear when I got to the gate (opening in the wooden fence just wide enough for a horse to squeeze through). I was airborne as I went through the gate, kinda scary, but also kinda cool.

It rained over night, so the really soft sands on the trails actually firm up and are easier to ride on. The clay in the dirt roads softens up though, which slows me down a little bit.

I think it is going to be a long time before I improve on this time. I knew I was close to breaking the hour barrier, so I pushed hard the last 2-3 miles.

This is my first BIM active entry. I record my GPS track with an application called MyTracks on a T-Mobile G1 smartphone (any Android smartphone with GPS will also work). New personal best for me (by 1 minute). Saw two gopher turtles in the preserve area, and two sandhill cranes in the neighbourhood. And I beat a nasty set of thunderstorms by about 10 minutes.
